Maternity Tops & Shirts

Today’s pregnant woman can pair a cute maternity shirt with maternity jeans or trousers for a look that mimics her everyday non-pregnant style, but is customised for the comfort, support, and coverage that pregnancy requires.

Pregnant women usually prefer lightweight, soft fabrics. For a layered look without the added bulk and unnecessary warmth of two layers, some maternity tops feature the popular mock double layer. If she prefers to layer, a bump hugging cotton camisole, with adjustable straps for added breast support, works nicely as a bottom layer.

Unless a young pregnant woman wants to show off a sneak peak of her growing bump, it is important that a maternity top be sufficiently long. For additional discretion, and as a nice way to feature the bump, a deep, gathered waistband is a helpful feature.

Certain feminine features in maternity tops and shirts enhance the curves of pregnancy. An empire waist features the bump, and draws attention to the small, high maternity waistline. Shoulder ruching and a pleated bust are also flattering, ultra-feminine features. A smaller sized woman will look cute in a less defined top that swings with her movement. And, sleeveless tops play up slim arms. Tube tops are very cute on the pregnant frame, and highlight slim arms as well as a fit back and shoulders. Tube tops should come with optional straps, however, because more support will likely become necessary as the pregnancy continues.

The modern woman has the option of virtually any style when purchasing maternity tops. Some A-line maternity tops are flattering throughout the pregnancy, but also wear well in non-pregnant life. Through the styles of maternity tops are very similar to the non-maternity trends, maternity clothing does offer slight alterations that truly enhance the beauty of pregnancy.
