Nothing strikes fear into the heart of a pregnant woman like the search for new swimwear. But, with all of the options now available in maternity swimwear, this no longer needs to be true.
Traditionally, maternity swimwear comes as either a one-piece swimming costume, or the more modern tankini. Certain features added to both styles allow for very flattering, as well as slimming maternity swimwear. Just as a wide scooped neck is flattering in maternity tops and dresses, it is flattering in maternity swimwear. A ribbon or tie under the bust-line creates the same a-line waist that is flattering in all maternity wear, and it is especially slimming in maternity swimwear. A halter top is another nice look, and a halter that ties at the back of the neck provides extra support and adjustability. Soft bra cups for added support are also a helpful feature during pregnancy.
Because many women are self conscious about their bodies during pregnancy, modesty can be a concern. Both in one-pieces and tankinis, most maternity swimwear features full coverage bottoms. A mock two piece is a nice way to look young and modern without the worry of putting on an accidental show. The ultimate in modest maternity swimwear is offered by the dress-style swimming costume. Maternity swim dresses cover the bottom, and the top of the thighs, and ensure that every area affected by pregnancy is concealed. The swim dress can be purchased as one piece, or in a two-piece style for easier bathroom access.
If modesty is not a concern, maternity bikinis can also be found. Maternity bikinis differ from non-maternity bikinis in that they offer a soft band that hugs the bottom of the bump, and they usually feature full-coverage bottoms as well. Bikinis, one-pieces, or tankinis, whatever style you prefer, you can find a maternity swimsuit that fits your pregnant frame as well as it fits your personality.
