Maternity Jackets And Coats

Most pregnant women think more often about staying cool than about keeping warm, ice-chips being the accessory of choice. However, a pregnancy that lasts through the winter months will make maternity jackets and coats a must.

Protecting oneself from the wind and cold is a practical thing to do; but, just as non-maternity jackets can be a flattering fashion statement, so can maternity jackets and coats. Because a warm coat will have some amount of bulk to it, and bulk is the last thing a woman wants to add to her pregnant figure, black or muted colours are the most slimming choices. Single breasted maternity jackets are also a good choice for diminished bulkiness.

Pregnant women are just shaped differently than non-pregnant women! Wearing an oversized coat, instead of one designed to fit the pregnant frame, will only result in the appearance of frumpiness. In addition to making room in the middle for the baby bump, and allowing for a larger chest-size, maternity jackets may also have more feminine details, like bell sleeves, to enhance a woman’s pregnancy curves. And unlike a larger sized non-maternity jacket, a good maternity jacket will fit a woman’s unchanging shoulders, and will include pleating, darting, or ruching to accentuate the small area between breast and bump.

For fall, or in climates that rarely require excessive bundling, cropped and open jackets are the perfect way for a pregnant woman to stay warm while properly displaying her bump. The cropped jacket ends just as the bump begins, and makes a very cute, proud-pregnancy statement. Also adorable is the open jacket that allows the bump to peek through, becoming more and more obvious as it grows.

As with all maternity wear, features such as ties, belts, and hidden adjustable elastic are all helpful. These things will allow a pregnant woman to purchase maternity clothes that fit well early on, without the worry that she will outgrow the clothing before her baby is born.
